Richland Newhope to give back to the community during ‘Always There Week of Service’
(Mansfield, OH) — Richland Newhope (Richland County Board of Developmental Disabilities) will be helping with Mansfield’s Summer Fun Time program during a statewide Week of Service July 17 – 21.
The community service project and others like it across Ohio are part of Always There - a yearlong campaign that recognizes the 50th anniversary of county boards of developmental disabilities. The Richland County Board of Developmental Disabilities was established in October 1967.
The Always There theme reflects the continuity of support, promotion of opportunity, and history of partnership county boards have offered to people with developmental disabilities and their families throughout the past, in the present, and in the future.
“Our day of service project is an opportunity for us to say thanks and to give back to Richland County residents who’ve supported us and those we have served for more than 50 years,” said Director of Community Relations Jane Imbody, who noted the agency’s roots can actually be traced back to the early 1950’s.
On Tuesday, July 18, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. volunteers from Richland Newhope will assist the Mansfield Parks and Recreation Department with its Summer Fun Time program at North Lake Park and Johns Park. About 30 staff will be helping with games, serving lunch, and doing other activities, including a disability awareness program.
In addition, more than 180 books donated by Richland Newhope staff and Bendon Publishing International, Inc. in Ashland will be distributed along with stickers and temporary tattoos.
For more information about the Week of Service and the county board’s project, contact Jane Imbody at 419-774-4215 or jimbody@rnewhope.org.
In 2016, Richland Newhope supported more than 1,700 individuals through early intervention, preschool, adult, residential, therapy, transportation, and other family support programs.
